Elvan Erdin

My work is a commentary on the short comings of society and its systems. As being part of generations of Diasporas, I am naturally moved by imagery related to war thorn landscapes, forced migrations, loss, memory and the concept of home.

Before I start painting, I make a selection from my collection of media cut outs, downloads from the internet, sketches on Google Earth, historical family photographs and sometimes, details of other previous works of mine and use them for inspiration.

I often heavily manipulate those images on the computer until I begin to find a meaningful composition. Than, moving on from the digitally created, artificial image, I begin creating a softer, life like, hand made image.
