Dodi Wexler

I believe in tiny bits.  I also believe in paper. These form the structures and foundations for my artwork.  I examine, construct, and deconstruct in detail focusing in on patterns of 1940’s stamp meters, or the fact that the only constant in any photograph is the sky.

Through the process of making art, materials constantly redefine themselves, reacting differently with ink, burn and bleach. In unforeseeable stages, I cut, sew, glue, staple, bend, scrunch and recycle to form new incarnations. Constant challenge to technique and the natural depletion of what I use, guarantee that every artwork is significantly different from the last.  Each tells an individual story according to its make-up, processes, and final appearance.  In a finished body of work, many pieces weave virtually together, creating a sensible world of their own.
