Jad Oakes

Jad Oakes is a multidisciplinary fine artist whose work explores themes of remembrance. Using photographic images found or self-produced as artifacts of memories, his work develops through use of different media, with equal emphasis on the conceptual process and the technique employed to create the work. He aims to preserve or revive his subject, often through creating an enlarged, ‘heightened’ portrait by drawing, photographic layering and sculpturing. Attempting to bring his subject into the present and giving them an extended physical life, re-evoking their memory. Jad investigates historical, cultural, political and personal memories with the objective of creating ‘monuments’ to engage an emotional response of the viewer, connecting them to the piece and ultimately the subject so that their memory and the memory of the piece, the artifact, lives on through the viewer.
