‘Britain’s greatest living stone sculptor’
(Financial Times 2013).
Emily Young presents Studio Show in the gallery, atrium and the garden of Great Western Studios exhibiting some of her recent smaller heads carved in Italy, along with other larger pieces.
Emily is a free carver, working in stone. Emily shows the geological history of her material by leaving some of the surfaces rough and unworked, her carving is only the most recent part of a long story, which started billions of years ago when the rocks and stones which form the Earth were first created. This marries with classical skills and years of research into the origins of art to produce her unique style of working.
Emily Young FRBS was raised in London, Wiltshire and Rome. As a young woman, she travelled around the world. A book of her work and writings, ‘Time in the Stone’ was published in 2007 by Tacit Hill Editions.
Emily Young is represented by the Fine Art Society London.
