Gluckman Smith Architects awarded three RIBA Awards 2018
Gluckman Smith Architects are delighted to have been awarded three RIBA East Midlands Award 2018 Award for their Font House project.
The new house is located within an historic walled garden in the grounds of Grade I listed Nevill Holt Hall. The house and landscaped garden provide discreet entertainment space in support of Nevill Holt’s opera festival. The house takes on a symmetrical form with the composed presence of a pavilion. A large central reception space is framed by two simple cellular bedrooms that project beyond the central mass of the building and overlook two ponds. In turn, these ponds wrap around a south facing terrace that is accessed from the reception space.
The material palette draws on local sources with a series of hand-crafted bronze roofs and rainwater goods set on hand-tooled ironstone facades. Slender-framed sliding glazed screens provide an abundance of natural light and versatility for entertaining. Internally, Gluckman Smith completed the total treatment of the walled garden with the production of a bespoke line of door furniture in walnut and blue steel.
Font House is at the heart of the owner’s vision of breathing life into a historic country estate and bringing something new and unexpected to the area.
