Estelle Thompson is taking part in an exhibition at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki from 28th Mar – 14th April. ‘Colour is the painting’s matter and form; in painting each line is coloured’.
The year-end and Valentine season will be particularly decorative this year for Champagne House Perrier-Jouët, with the unveiling of the Perrier-Jouët Collection by Claire Coles, an elegant series of limited editions, created by the British textile designer.
Perrier-Jouët pursues its artistic collaborations with the young London artist Claire Coles, in creating two bespoke embroidered designs to echo both the House style and the individual personality of its Grand Brut and prestigious Belle Epoque cuvees.
Using fragments of vintage wallpapers, fabrics and luxurious threads, Coles produces layered botanical collages and creates beautiful handmade artworks, transforming simple fabrics into true works of art.
Using nature as a source of inspiration, the artist applied her own interpretation of Perrier-Jouët’s Art Nouveau philosophy with a Je ne sais quoi touch of haute-couture to a limited number of bottles.
Claire Coles explains: “Inspired by Perrier-Jouët’s artistic heritage and the great variety of its wines’ aromas, she created themed designs that capture each champagne’s individual character; the House’s style theme – lively and fresh for Grand Brut, and the delicate floral theme for Belle Epoque”.

Following on from Two Times Elliott’s recent rebrand for fellow studio holder Daniel Hopwood, the work has gained a huge amount of online presence and accolades.

‘Seemingly effortless, Moxon’s glass and steel viaduct around Taunton Castle belies the complexity of its construction’, writes Felix Mara.
Moxon conceived the bridges as a typology of spans, each with very different structural principles: a viaduct in the case of the Castle Green Bridge, a simply supported beam in for the Mill Stream Bridge and a tied arch to the River Tone Bridge. Their contexts are also very different: a Scheduled Ancient Monument in the case of the Castle Green Bridge, landscaped parkland for the Mill Stream Bridge and a river in the case of the Tone Bridge. The essential point is that they have a shared language of detailed design.
Moxon, also the designer of Taunton’s Third Way Bridge that completed last year, is one of several architectural practices with a convincing portfolio of bridge projects, including Wilkinson Eyre and Clash Architects. These firms bring unique architectural skills to this work, seen, for example, in the use of false perspective in the Castle Green Bridge, which tapers from 5 to 2.6m in width to increase or diminish expected travel distances.
A meticulous note on Moxon’s drawings states that no horizontal paving grout lines should be in the same line within five rows of each other. This refinement extends to practical features, such as drainage gaps between glass decking planks and the strips of grey slip-resistant fritting on them.
