Pop-up Shop at Great Western Studios

Great Western Studios return with their famous pop-up shop from 25th of October, 2023 until 3rd of November 2023 (weekend excluded), from 10.00am until 4.00pm, with many different brands.

We are happy to host this pop-up shop so creative, independent, and innovative brands have the chance to grow and meet new clients. Accessories, fashion, kitchenware, homeware, beauty, health and so much more.

This pop-up is so special for us as we mark our 6th anniversary of the final design of the building.

Make sure to join us on the opening day and celebrate together with us. We look forward to welcome you every day to check what is new, and spoil yourself with special pieces or gift it to someone special.

Grand Union Canal Micro-festival: Building Dialogues

Pavement2Catwalk invites all Great Westerns to join the micro-festival ‘Building dialogues’ on canal side (by boat Molly Anna) from July 7th to July 9th.

Would you like better lighting on the canal? Outdoor events with a view? Make sure to join the discussion with representatives of the City of Westminster to develop a shared vision for the use of the space, followed by drinks and music.

On another note, P2C invites creatives of GWS to contribute remnants, cuttings — whatever they consider “waste” — to be transformed into art and fashion by elders of the Caribbean community.

Let’s turn GWS rubbish into art!

Bike MOT at GWS

David from Cyclic Nature offered a full bicycle MOT service along with helpful advice on maintaining bikes, to our studio holders.

David has over 9 years of experience and beside many qualifications, his main accolade is his love of the bicycle.

This is the second time David hosts a Bike MOT at Great Western Studios, and our studio holders are always thankful for this event.

Meditation and Breathwork with Emma Ball

Her guided meditation with breathwork will naturally yield some meditative presence. Often we take our breathing for granted. My unique style involves using the breath to finally tune an orchestra of events in the body consisting of chemicals, emotions, feelings, energy, vibration and frequency to relax the mind, improve focus, calm the nervous system and boost immunity.

Benefits of Breathwork

-Breath work … “Each breath is like a little rebirth, a renaissance that can only be celebrated if we recognise that it’s happening” … Cristen Rodgers”

-Chakra energy cleanse

Keeping your energy flowing through clear and unobstructed pathways is crucial to experience vitality, high energy levels, and a healthy appetite for life. Blocked chakra stops the flow of energy, affecting you both psychologically and emotionally.

We also feel that we don’t have enough time to invest in ourselves or the practices that nourish us.  I believe you really don’t have enough time NOT to. If you DO you will be more efficient, get more done, be focused, tune into what’s truly important to you, and align with your inspirations.

Emma likes to align to meditation and breathwork in the spirit of “we get to do this”, is the mind set I encourage you to adopt

– Nothing changes unless, you embrace change

When we are tired, stressed or running on empty physically,  mentally and emotionally, pushing on and on is not going to create inspiration, or creative ideas and solutions.

We are not at our best.

So just like a deep good night sleep provide rest, so does meditation it supports and creates a “charge” a balancing charge of life force energy, a calm, clear perspective.

When our being is balanced,  our energy is full,  effective and juiced up full of momentum and  passion to be purposeful.

Emma will be hosting another session for GWS studio holders on May 18th on the occasion of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Evolve … Align … Lead … from an empowered state.

Clothing Swap for Earth Day

GWS x Marble Ldn hosted the clothing swap for Earth Day.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than giving a second chance to preloved items (bags, shoes, and accessories).

The event took place two days (April 19th, and April 20th) from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Studio holders had the chance to bring their clothes at our building, where everything was arranged in rails and boxes. On the date of the event, studio holders had the chance to get every item they wanted for free. All the remaining stock will be donated to a Charity Fundraiser.

We organised this event to make sure our studio holders refresh their wardrobe while saving the planet. Studio holders also had the chance to donate money which we donated to Women’s Aid.

By organising this event, we managed to save 165 clothing items, and raise a symbolic amount of money for Women’s Aid. Thank you to everyone who was part of it. Together for Earth!

A special thank you to our studio holder Akta Photography for capturing these special moments.

Facts:

  • Every year the fashion industry uses 93 billion cubic metres of water — enough to meet the consumption needs of 5 million people
  • Buying one new white cotton shirt produces the same emissions as driving a car for 35 miles
  • It takes 3,781 litres of water to make a pair of jeans, from the production of the cotton to the delivery of the final product to the store. That is equal to the emission of around 33.4 kilograms of CO2 equivalent
  • Of the total fibre input used for clothing, 87 % is incinerated or disposed of in a landfill. Each week 11 million garments end up in landfill in the UK
  • Every year a half a million tonnes of plastic microfibers are dumped into the ocean, the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles. These microplastics end up in our food because they can’t be extracted from water
  • More than 2 tonnes of clothing are bought each minute in the UK
  • The average adult spends £27 a month in fast fashion outlets and currently owns 2 items which remain unworn
