Join On&On Designs at London Design Festival

On&On Designs is delighted to invite you to Zieta’s “Expansion” exhibition launch on Monday, the 17th of September at Arthill Gallery in West London.

“Expansion” is a story about Zieta Prozessdesign Studio’s development, processes and technologies, told through experiments, objects and sculptures that led to company’s evolution. The Plopp stool was just the beginning, which along with the FiDU technology contributed to the creation of many other projects: Chippensteel chairs and mirrors from Tafla and Rondo lines. Zieta Prozessdesign Studio will also present bionic G-Table and G-Console in various finishes, architecture-inspired J-Chair and sculptures that are an effect of the artistic vision based on studio’s technology. The first objects were either powder-painted or polished. Today their works are hand-crafted with high quality cattle leather, topped with the varieties of highest quality of stones and wood. Mirrors are covered with a special coating creating a phenomenal gradient on their surface. Zieta Prozessdesign Studio has developed a breakthrough technique of thermal coloring that uses high temperature to give the objects an amazing tint ranging from a beautiful golden color to an intense deep blue.

The exhibition will take place between 17-23 September.  The opening with Oskar Zieta will take place on the 17th of September, we look forward to seeing you there. Please RSVP to info@onandondesigns.com

The Duppy Share

The Duppy Share is a perfectly balanced unique blend of premium rums from the beautiful Worthy Park estate in Jamaica and the prestigious Foursquare Distillery in Barbados. These are very contrasting island styles, a fiery Jamaican rum and a smooth Barbadian rum makes the Duppy Share the perfect partner for punch and other rum cocktails.

The Duppy Share is trying to bring the fun, energy and excitement that we ALL associate with the Caribbean to a rum category completely void of all of this. Caribbean legend has it that the dark duppy spirits swoop between the islands stealing the best share of the rum. Spirit masters, skilled in the fine art of blending, the duppies take only the best, this is The Duppy Share.

Latest news from our Studio Holders…

KPPR

KPPR have been in the swing of festival season this summer, after being appointed to manage all publicity engagements for actor Joe Thomas, around his lead role in summer comedy film The Festival. KPPR worked alongside the film’s producers to put in place an extensive schedule of interviews for Joe in the run up to the film’s release (14th August), including Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’ and ‘Sunday Brunch’, BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright, The Times and MTV.com.

Best known for his role as Simon Cooper in multi-award-winning TV series The Inbetweeners, Joe’s lead role in The Festival is as newly-single Nick, whose friend decides that a post-graduation festival is the perfect solution to cheer him up after a messy, and very public, break-up.

With 4*s from Metro and NME, reviews have called it ‘consistently hilarious’ and ‘full of belly laughs’. The Festival is in cinemas now!

Idler Academy: Taxidermy Masterclass with Suzette Field
Saturday 30th June
1.30pm – 6.30pm

If you’ve ever fancied enlivening your mantelpiece with a dancing, singing, pipe-smoking or motorbike-riding mouse this workshop is for you. Come for a fun, practical and fascinating Saturday afternoon.

Taxidermy has been accepted, both as a craft and an art, for centuries, and is once again making a place for itself in the homes of thousands of enthusiasts. All it takes to learn to stuff your own animals is a little basic knowledge and a creative imagination. Join taxidermist Suzette Field for a beginners class in naturalist taxidermy looking. All materials – including a mouse for each student – will be provided, and each class member will leave at the end of the day with their own taxidermied mole.

Suzette will take each student through the step-by-step process of taxidermy: from ethically sourcing your rodents, to preservation, stuffing, and positioning. By the end, you’ll have a happy little mouse, a quirky talking point for your mantelpiece and a new experience to tell your friends about.

Students can pose their mouse in a naturalist setting but they will also be introduced to the art of anthropomorphism, the attribution of human characteristics to animals, plants or non-living things. This practice has been widely explored through taxidermy, most famously by the Victorian taxidermist Walter Potter.

The class is intended for beginners and no former taxidermy experience is required.

Studio Holders receive a 15% discount, please contact cathleen@idler.co.uk for details.

Gluckman Smith Architects awarded three RIBA Awards 2018

Gluckman Smith Architects are delighted to have been awarded three RIBA East Midlands Award 2018 Award for their Font House project.

The new house is located within an historic walled garden in the grounds of Grade I listed Nevill Holt Hall. The house and landscaped garden provide discreet entertainment space in support of Nevill Holt’s opera festival. The house takes on a symmetrical form with the composed presence of a pavilion. A large central reception space is framed by two simple cellular bedrooms that project beyond the central mass of the building and overlook two ponds. In turn, these ponds wrap around a south facing terrace that is accessed from the reception space.

The material palette draws on local sources with a series of hand-crafted bronze roofs and rainwater goods set on hand-tooled ironstone facades. Slender-framed sliding glazed screens provide an abundance of natural light and versatility for entertaining. Internally, Gluckman Smith completed the total treatment of the walled garden with the production of a bespoke line of door furniture in walnut and blue steel.

Font House is at the heart of the owner’s vision of breathing life into a historic country estate and bringing something new and unexpected to the area.
